Nurturing New Growth: Funding for Seedlings

“Synod Networks are open, collaborative groups, centered around a shared interest, purpose, mission, or ministry, building relationships and connections across the Synod. Networks are organized by people and/or ministries that come from multiple presbyteries. They may form for various lengths of time to accomplish their purposes. They build on the example of our existing Racial Ethnic Ministries to provide a space for people to gather to support one another, deepen their work, and broaden their connections with interested persons around the Synod.

“Beyond these connections, Synod Networks provide openings for people to step into the work of the Synod. A representative of each approved Synod Network has voice in the deliberations of the Synod and its committees. Funding is included in the Synod budget for 2025 and beyond to provide seed money for Synod Networks, and these networks will be eligible to apply for grants through an expanding grant program to support their work.”

“We feel that it is incredibly important to blend our excitement about the possibilities for Synod Networks in the future.... the budget also provides for grant funding for all networks, including targeted funds to support networks’ work with youth and young adults, to help offset the shifts proposed beyond 2025.”

[From the recommendations of the Visioning Task Force approved by

the Synod Assembly at its meeting in November 2024.]

The Synod's 2025 budget includes seed money designated for 'seedlings'—groups that are just beginning to work together. Seed money requests are made via a line-item budget request for approval by the Cultivate Committee, as part of an Application Form. Seed money will be allocated for reimbursement for approved expenses or direct payment to vendors for approved expenses. Seedlings and Networks have access to the Synod communication systems to make their presence known, invite participation, and share information and resources across the Synod. Seedlings can apply to become approved Networks that have access to Synod grants. One liaison from each Seedling or Network will have voice at Cultivate Committee Meetings and Synod Assemblies.
