We want to share an initiative that is very close to the hearts of those at the First Hispanic Presbyterian Church of Miami. Since 1959, the church has served as a historic port of entry for immigrants seeking refuge, especially those fleeing instability in Latin America and the Caribbean.
As immigration assistance organizations in South Florida have been reduced or eliminated, thousands of asylum seekers have been left without legal guidance, facing language barriers, misinformation, and limited resources. As a church, they believe this is not a time to retreat, but rather to respond with clarity, compassion, and justice.
Beginning June 14, 2025, the First Hispanic Presbyterian Church of Miami launched an Immigration Center, a free, faith-based legal consultation program in collaboration with local immigration attorneys. The church will open its doors to offer: 1) free, private consultations with board-certified immigration attorneys, and 2) a welcoming and dignified environment for individuals and families in crisis due to the current immigration volatility.
This three-month pilot program allows the church to evaluate the need and feasibility of a longer-term, nine-month program, which will include a full-service food pantry and integration seminars to teach migrants how to adapt to the American way of life.
If you or your congregation feel called to do so, they would love to receive referrals from individuals or families seeking this type of assistance.
See the flyers (in Spanish and English) with a QR code allowing you to schedule an appointment.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Rev. Angel Samuel Ortiz at angel.ortizblanco98@gmail.com or contact the church through the email address or phone number on the flyer.
