Shaping the Future of Our Ministry: An Invitation to Serve

Dear Members of the Synod of the South Atlantic Community,

As we look ahead to the second half of the year and plan for the coming year, we are reminded that the strength, vision, and vitality of our regional ministry rely entirely on the diverse gifts of our people. Our Synod is entering a season of exciting opportunities, and we are currently looking for dedicated leaders to step into key roles on our committees, commissions, and leadership teams.

If you have ever wondered how our regional church connects, supports local congregations, or makes a broader impact, **this is your invitation to find out—and to lead.

Why Your Voice Matters;

We are intentionally moving away from the old "shoulder-tapping" method of leadership recruitment. We want to ensure our leadership reflects the full breadth of our community's wisdom, experiences, and backgrounds. Whether you have served on regional committees for years or are looking to step into a Synod role for the very first time, your unique perspective is needed.

Opportunities to Serve Include:

Ministry and Commission Leadership - Providing visionary leadership as the synod continues to grow on our journey together.

Finance and Stewardship - Stewarding our shared resources for future generation ministries.

Representation and Nomination - Helping us connect people to their passion areas across the region.

Here are few of the positions or categories with positions to fill:

  • Synod Committee Leadership: We are looking for individuals with a heart for service to fill essential roles across our standing committees (including the Embody Committee). If you are passionate about leadership formation, sustainable church development, and fostering community connection, your voice is needed.

  • The Permanent Judicial Commission (PJC): There are currently five vacancies on the PJC representing our presbyteries, including Cherokee, Northeast Georgia, Peace River, Providence, and Tropical Florida. This commission plays a critical role in exercising Church Discipline, requiring individuals committed to discernment, justice, and the constitution of our church.

  • The Journey 2027 Planning Team: Do you have a passion for event planning, youth and young adult ministry, or program development? We are forming the team to design and organize our upcoming Journey 2027 Event at Epworth by the Sea. This is an incredible opportunity to shape spiritual themes, worship, and leadership formation for participants across the region.

How to Step Forward (or Suggest a Peer)

We have simplified our process this year. If you feel called to serve—or if you recognize leadership gifts in someone else that you’d love to encourage—please let us know.

  1. **Fill out our brief Interest Form: https://form.jotform.com/261334866787169

  2. **What to expect next: Once you submit the form, a member of our leadership team will reach out to you just to chat, answer your questions, and explore roles that may be a mutual fit. No pressure, just a conversation.

Please submit your interest by July 31st so our teams can begin planning for the upcoming term.

Thank you for your continued dedication to our shared ministry. Your prayers, your gifts, and your leadership are what allow our connectional church to thrive.

With gratitude,

Embody Committee
